We are hitting the mid season mark and that means that Rugby Alberta is starting to put together their rep teams. Here is a quick message from their Director. Go and tryout, you never know that you’ll make the team unless you try.
I hope all is well.
My name is Graeme Moffat and I am the Director of Rugby for Rugby Alberta.
I am hoping that you can share the attached poster and registration link
with the high school coaches in Edmonton.
The try outs for this years provincial team will take place on Sunday May
24th in Red Deer.
All players must pre register.
Players are required to bring a mouth guard and their cleats.
The schedule is in. This year we will be competing in Tier 1 against 6 other teams. This means that we will be playing 6 regular season games, while only the top 4 will make it to playoffs. Make sure that you put these dates in your calendar. Can’t be there? Follow us on Twitter @sconarugby

I don’t want to jinx the weather but things are looking good for the annual Scona Invitational. This year we will be playing Ross Sheppard, O’Leary (boys), Bellerose, Paul Kane and Bev Facey (girls). This is always a great way to kick of the season and a great place for all of the players to get their first hits in. Score will be updated on this website at this link SCORES.
Scores will also be updated on Twitter @sconarugby as well. Make sure you follow us this season to get up to date information and results.
I’ll say this again, if you or anyone you know is interested in getting involved with rugby, please contact the ERU and become a Ref today.
Good luck to everyone this season
The 2015 rugby season is fast approaching which means we need to do a little housekeeping. The team has been chosen and we are very excited to see what they can do. We are confirmed in the Ross Sheppard tournament as well as hosting our preseason tournament. Check the important dates page for full details.
With a new season starting that means that we are in need of referees. If you or someone you know is interested in refereeing please go to the ERU website for more information.
We always like to stay connected and up to date with our player and parents, both past and present. There are lots of ways to keep up with what we are doing.

The 2015 rugby season is fast approaching. Tryouts for new player will begin on Tuesday, February 17 at 7 am. Please be on time, changed in gym clothes and ready to go. No experience necessary, we’ll teach you everything you’ll need to know.
Returning players tryouts will begin on Monday, March 2 at 7 am, not any earlier.
Talk to your friends and get them to come out too. Rugby is a fun and exciting sport and we want as many people as we can to come and try it out.
If you have any questions, see Mr. Rutledge or Mr. Forsyth or ask a returning player.
We can’t wait to see you all at the tryouts. Good Luck
The season may be over for us this year, but the club season is just starting. We encourage everyone to sign up with one of the local clubs and continue to play. Rugby is a sport that you can play and enjoy for the rest of your life. If you are interested in playing this summer check out the Edmonton Rugby Unions website, there you will find links to all of the local clubs and schedules to go and watch the senior teams play.

Another point that needs to be stressed is that rugby can not happen without referees. Referees allow for rugby to develop and grow. They teach our young players how play safely and obey the laws so that when players make it to the senior levels they know how to play smart and safe. Referees also need experience with all levels of the game in order to become better themselves. Rugby Alberta is offering a Refereeing Level 1 Course to help train new referees. If you would like to make a difference in the rugby community please consider taking this course and getting involved.
Level 1 Promo 2014
Have a great summer and go play some rugby.
Playoffs start on Wednesday night. We will be playing St. Francis Xavier at 6:15 pm at Ellerslie. Come and cheer us on, it’s going to be a very good game. This is the first year of playoffs with the combined league. The new league has been good and only means better competition for the teams coming out of Edmonton. If you can’t make it follow us on Twitter @sconarugby.
