2011 Team

The 2011 kicked off on a bit of a cold note. The weather didn’t cooperate with us and we started the season a couple of weeks later than normal. We played host to our annual tournament at Clarke Stadium. This pre-season tournament saw teams from Eagle Butte, Red Deer and Edmonton. Although we received several inches of snow the morning of the tournament, the helpful staff at Clarke cleared the fields and we were able to play.

We entered 2 teams into the Pirate’s 7’s tournament. Our first team went 1-2 and didn’t make the playoff round. The other team went 3-0 and went on to win the tournament.

The regular season saw the team go undefeated and go into playoffs in first place. In semi-final action we were victorious over our long time school rivals Harry Ainlay in a hard fought, physical game. The City Championship game was played against McNally. The game was played to the last minute and saw us victorious.

Following the City Championship win the team was off to Provincials for the second time in 4 years. The first game of the tournament was against Lloydminster. They played a great game but at the end of the game were no match for the second ranked Lords. With that win, we were off to play the Sturgeon Spirits. This game proved to be a very physical game. At the end of the game both teams were exhausted and only 1 try was scored. The final score was 5-0 for Strathcona. With that win, we were off to our second Provincial Championship game in 4 years.

The Provincial Championship game was played against Medicine Hat. M.H. went up early in the game and we were never able to get it back. The final score was 11-10 for Medicine Hat. Congratulations to all players who were a part of this team for a very good season. Thank you to all of the parents and fans for all of your support.
