2012 Team

The season started out with the Scona Invitational Rugby Tournament. This tournament saw Bev Facey, Eagle Butte and Holy Trinity Academy come and play on the field at Clarke. The games were tough and a lot of learning happened.

Following the tournament we began the regular season. The first two games saw us defeat Ross Sheppard and Harry Ainlay to start the season 2-0.

We then travelled to Calgary to compete in the Clearwater Cup. This tournament was a great place for us to refine some of our skills and see some teams we have never played before. In the first game we played Notre Dame of Calgary and won 10-0. The second game was against a provincial powerhouse, Bowness High School. This was a very hard fought game that saw us lose 21-7. With that loss we were relegated to the 3rd place game against Rundle College. The game was to take place on Saturday morning but by the time we got the field it was snowing. Unfortunately, because of this the game was cancelled.

After the Calgary tournament we came back to Edmonton focused and a more cohesive group. We finished the season 5-0 and went into playoffs as the #1 team. Our semi-final game saw us playing our southside rivals, Harry Ainlay. The game was a physical game but saw us victorious, 17-5.

With this victory we were back in the City Championship game for the second year in a row. This time it was against Ross Sheppard in a rematch of the 2009 City Championship. Like in 2009, the game was a back and forth battle that came to the last play of the game. After being down 12-10 with only minutes left in the game, a drive mounted that saw us score a try and conversion to win 17-12.

With another City Championship we were confident going into the Provincial Tournament. Our first game saw a win over Grande Prairie. Our next game was against the eventual tournament champions Holy Trinity Academy from Okotoks. The final score was 15-0 in a tough fought game. Our last game, for third place, was against Sturgeon. This was a very physical game that saw Sturgeon victorious. Our final results from Provincials saw us finish fourth overall.

2012 was a great season that saw lots of successes. Thank you to all of our fans who supported us. Thank you to our graduates for helping to build a legacy of rugby in our city and province. Keep in touch and remember to follow the team in the future.
